their nextThe SafeSpaces program allows folks who are living out of their vehicles a safe place to park with access to sanitary facilities and other amenities. We also offer program staff to help plan their next steps to better housing. We have hosted over 200 people over the past two years. Currently, we have 51 people working to improve their lives while safely living on faith community sites with plans to strengthen our support with a new buddy program linking congregation members with social service backgrounds to walk along side our participants as they find paths to permanent housing.
Faith Community Shelter
Since 2012, the AFC has been sponsoring a nightly transitional shelter for 20 participants at faith communities from Santa Cruz to Aptos. We rotate daily from site to site and meet for fellowship with our wonder volunteer cooks each evening.
Our trailer moves to where the unhoused congregated at shelters, and unsanctioned camps. 160 people a week are able to shower . People need socks.
Homeless folks go through them fast. SPIN has distributed over 30,000 socks at area shelters and food pantries.
Every faith community is invited to join the AFC. Come help relieve the suffering that living without shelter causes. Be in fellowship with those who are struggling. Bring to your congregation a better understanding that we are all God's people. AFC needs cooks, towel throwers, trailer towers, servers, planners, fundraisers; caring people to assist those without homes to a better life.
It's fun work.
